Paradise Falls is one of the secrets of the King Valley and certainly one that often goes unseen by visitors and even locals who are focused on discovering the wonderful regional wineries and restaurants.
It is popular amongst family groups looking to enjoy their holidays and entertain children at the same time.
It is worth noting at this point that the walk from the smallish car park to the falls is only 200 metres but is down a series of rocky steps which need to be navigated on the way down, and on the way up.
Located in the Alpine National Park, Paradise Falls is an impressive sight after recent rainfalls with a drop of approximately 31 metres over the edge of a cliff. Paradise Falls are viewed from the bottom with a convenient observation point. There are various unofficial tracks which lead from the observation area to under the Falls but visitors are discouraged from taking them as there is a chance of disturbing the Peregrine Falcons which nest on the cliff tops.
Another interesting feature of this area is the various geological formations. Along the walking track there are bands of Sandstone rock and at the base of the falls and the bottom of the track is some very impressive conglomerate rock consisting of small rock walls held together by sand and soil. These conglomerate rock walls date back over 350 million years and once formed an ancient river system.
The road leading up to the Falls can be narrow in places so be wary of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction. It is also advisable to carry a water bottle, especially on warmer days.
Paradise Falls is certainly worth the short drive and walk and will add another great memory to your King Valley experience.
