The Pinsent Hotel at the top end of Reid Street was originally a private hospital. During the 1850’s land sales Dr Gemmell bought the allotment and built the first hospital in the district.
It was one of the first brick buildings in the township. Not long after in 1851 John Crisp purchased the building and converted it to a hotel which he named The Royal. From 1917 through to 1934 Miss Annie Edith Pinsent operated the hotel and it was during this time that the hotel became known as the Pinsent. All of the two storey exterior is the original building.
