The Wangaratta Punt was commissioned in 1848 by William Henry Clark. It was hand crafted from local River Red Gum trees and measure approximately thirty feet by eleven feet wide.
At each end two men would pull it across the river using heavy duty ropes. The punt featured side rails and at each was a ramp which could be raised and lowered by chains.
In 1855 the first bridge was build over theOvensRiverand punt was sunk. Today there is a steel footbridge on the site of the punt that crosses from the Sydney Beach car park toApexPark.
